I am a wife, and mother of two. My husband calls me his kitchen nerd (he’s never seen anyone get so excited over a new wooden spatula). Kitchen stores are my candy store; there’s a visible light which shines from my eyes when I enter Sur La Table, or Williams-Sonoma. I could tab cookbooks and read food blogs all day (if only there were time for that). Truly, my collection of recipes overfloweth!
In 2010 I told myself I had to better channel all of this enthusiasm and focus in on healthy recipes–exceptionally healthy recipes! I suppose there are varying opinions on what is “healthy”. For me, I focus on purity. I want to feed my family without the use of artificial additives, preservatives, sweeteners and colorings. No HFCS. No MSG. No GMO’s. If using animal products, I want to know that the animal was healthy, eating their natural diet (I don’t think a sick animal can offer it’s consumer “health”). I’m also a “full-fat” kind of girl…dangit, just give me the REAL THING!
All the recipes on this site are gluten-free. I don’t do well with gluten, and I seem to have passed it on to my kids. While it was quite depressing in the beginning, I’m SO OVER IT! Nothing beats feeling good. Life’s too short to spend it laying on the couch.
While I realize my food is not 100% pure, it’s been a giant step in the right direction. I try not to get too caught up in perfection (I have that tendency). I believe that if you take care to eat well 80% of the time, you’ll reap great rewards. Our health as a family has improved so much.
Getting real with food has also improved my cooking skills. I used to follow recipes so rigidly, but now I have a lot of fun trying to see how I can adapt and make a recipe more wholesome. A delicious journey, indeed! And it’s what I hope to inspire here; real food…real good.
